With the aim of preventing the transport of illicit substances at sea and keeping them out of the hands of young people, this action was carried out during maritime surveillance patrols to maintain the rule of law. During the operation, land surface units of the Mexican Navy participated in locating and securing a semi-submersible or low-profile vessel with three crew members inside along with 180 packages weighing approximately 3.5 tons of suspected cocaine.
The illicit cargo and vessel were seized, and the detained crew members were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the FGR, which will determine their legal status in order to compile the corresponding investigation files.
It should be noted that, with this seizure, thus far during the current presidential administration, more than 44.8 tons of apparent cocaine have been seized at sea. The seizure also represents an economic impact of more than 846.55 billion Mexican pesos (US$44.85 million) for the traffickers.
These actions are part of the maritime, air, and land surveillance operations carried out by the Ministry of the Navy, aimed at deterring criminal activity in order to guarantee and uphold the rule of law in Mexico’s maritime zones.
